Anyone who performs any kind of electrical work in the state of Texas needs to be licensed. The starter electrician license in Texas is the Apprentice electrician license.

It’s pretty easy to get your apprentice license in the state of Texas. You don’t need to take any test, or any classes to get that license. All you need to do is fill out the application and pay the licensing fee to the Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR). They will mail you that new license a few days later and it is good for 1 year.

After you have had that apprentice license for 1 year, you need to take a 4 hour continuing education course to renew that license and keep it up to date. You can do this class online, there is no test required, it is just a 4 hour video course.
